What are dermal fillers?

The primary ingredient of dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, (a substance that occurs naturally in healthy skin) and they are used to plump out or fill in the lines and wrinkles caused by the ageing process.

How does it work?

The two main dermal fillers we use are Botox® and Juvéderm® Ultra which contains local anaesthetic this makes the treatment more comfortable. The treatment involves injecting hyaluronic acid directly into the skin to fill the lip, wrinkle or fold. Once in the skin, it creates volume, resulting in a healthy and natural appearance.

When are results noticed?

Results are evident immediately. The skin is smoother, youthful and in many cases the lines are literally ‘erased’. Minimal swelling and reddening may appear but this should fade quite quickly and it is temporary.

How long does it last?

The product lasts in the skin for 6 to 12 months before being naturally dissolved therefore lines and wrinkles require maintenance or repeat treatment.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are considered to be one of the safest anti-ageing treatments around and this is reflected in their increasing popularity over the past few years.

Possible side effects of filler treatment

All dermal fillers have the potential to cause complications. Although majority of adverse reactions are mild, such as bruising, swelling, redness, itching, rash which you may experience on the day of your treatment. You will be provided with patient information leaflet how to manage these side effects. Less common side effects include raised lumps under the skin, infection, movement of filler material from site of injection, allergic reaction, and bleeding and rare localised tissue damage (tissue necrosis), blindness and stoke.
